History of Valdivias

In the heart of the Americas, long before the global expansion of tobacco, the Valdivian civilization cultivated and traded it as a central element of both social and spiritual life. For them, tobacco was more than an agricultural product: each leaf represented a bond between the land, the community, and the transcendent.

Archaeological findings show that tobacco was used in ritual ceremonies as well as in systems of economic exchange. It was shared in communal gatherings as a sign of trust, offered in sacred rites as a means of communication with ancestors, and valued as a resource that strengthened alliances between neighboring peoples. Smoke itself was believed to carry messages, acting as a bridge between human beings, nature, and the universe.
